REIMAGINE BEDDINGTON is a multi-year project to plan the future of our parks and other open spaces (pathways, sports fields, playgrounds.) This is our chance to really make things interesting around here! New activities? Community garden? Outdoor exercise circuits? Gathering spaces? More benches along the pathways?
- Increase recreational diversity, for all ages
- Activate outdoor spaces
- Add amenities
In terms of activating our parks last summer, The City of Calgary brought Lawn Chair Theatre and its Mobile Adventure Playground to Beddington. Vivo sent Play Ambassadors to Beddington, every other week. Vivo also hosted Fire Pit Friday.
We seek YOUR ideas for our parks and open spaces! Your involvement will help us devise plans and make improvements happen! They will help energize our community. Reimagine Beddington meetings are open to residents: We meet the second Tuesday of every month at the Beddington Theatre Arts Centre, upstairs Board Room, 7-9 pm.
REIMAGINE BEDDINGTON UPDATE, MARCH 2020
As we move into the spring, we continue working on five main projects:
Planters: The Reimagine Beddington Committee has ordered attractive planters and Able Landscaping will be seeding and nurturing hardy, colourful plants for these pots over the winter and early spring. We are looking forward to planting and placement on Beddington Boulevard early this summer.
Beacham Close Park & Vivo Play Hub: Vivo and the Beddington Heights Community Association are working together to establish a Play Hub on Beacham Close. More on this, soon!
Three-Park Walk: In September 2019, Janet led a walk to three parks on Beaconsfield Place, Beacham Close and Beaconsfield Close, whose equipment likely will be removed by the City in the next few years. Our goal is to refresh and diversify these parks for more active use by people of all ages. We are now applying for a grant to engage a landscape designer. The design firm would then take our ideas, incorporate their own expertise, and come up with park proposals for discussion with our community.
Benchington: In late summer, early fall, the committee sent out a colourful “Benchington Bench” to four locations, starting near the Berkshire Place Playground, then moving to Huntington Ridge, to the green space on Bedwood Crescent NE (City #616) and currently it is sitting out winter along a pathway. We are exploring placing a bench, in conjunction with Huntington Hills.
Park Naturalization: We may have an opportunity with City of Calgary Parks to naturalize an area in Beddington. More on this to follow!
